Ekaterina Jance (Katya)
Katya, short for Ekaterina, is the principal at KGB Legal. When you first talk to her, you will pick up a bit of an accent, notwithstanding that she has been living in Western Australia for just over 20 years. Katya is fluent in English and Russian.
Katya was admitted to the Supreme Court of Western Australia in August 2016 and since then, has been primarily practicing in the area of criminal defence. Katya also appears in traffic matters, extraordinary driver’s licence applications and restraining orders. Her passion in criminal law is to represent those that have the scales tipped against them.
Katya appears regularly in the Children’s Court, Magistrates Court and District Court and has represented clients in the Court of Appeal. She has a strong network of Barristers and Solicitors and expert witness network who she can call upon if necessary to provide representative council.
Prior to entering the field of law, Katya applied her skills in different areas of work. After graduating from the University of Western Australia in 2004 with a Bachelor of Commerce degree with Honours, she worked in the scientific field, then in the corporate sector, followed by mining and construction industries with a focus on occupational health and safety and environment. In 2010, Katya went back to UWA to fulfil her dream of becoming an advocate for those wrongly accused.
Katya could be described as soft and gentle like a feather on the outside, but strong as steel on the inside, often deluding her opponents and giving her a competitive advantage! She will be upfront and honest with clients, ensuring the best possible outcome is achieved.
